Recover your Ledger Vault's master seed on a Nano

Part 1:

If your device has been initialized, follow these steps to wipe the seed and pin. If you're using a new device, go to Part 2.

1. Connect the USB end of the cable to your computer and the micro-USB end to your Ledger Nano S.
2. Enter your pin and navigate to Settings > Security > Reset all or enter three consecutive wrong pin codes.

Part 2:

You must have installed version 2.0.0 (or later) of the firmware on your Ledger Nano S. Follow these steps to update your device.

1. Install Ledger Live on your computer.
2. Reboot the Ledger Nano S in Recovery mode. To do so, connect the USB end of the cable to your computer, then press and hold the right button while connecting the micro-USB end to the Ledger Nano S until Recovery displays on the screen.
3. On your computer, open the Ledger Live app. If you use it for the first time, follow the onboarding assistant.
4. Click Manager on the left panel.
5. Click Update firmware at the top of the page and follow the instructions on-screen.
6. Once the update completes, disconnect the device.

1. Go to https://vault.ledger.com/recover .
2. Select the Recover the master seed option.
3. Select the I've read the recovery process checkmark and click Start recovery .

1. Connect the USB end of the cable to your computer, then press and hold the right button while connecting the micro-USB end to the Ledger Nano S until Recovery displays on the screen.

2. On the web app, click My device is ready to start the recovery process.
3. Press both buttons to select Vault recovery Start .

4. Press both buttons to create a pin code.

5. Use the right and left buttons to define a 4-to-8-digits pin. Once done, select the checkmark icon and press both buttons to confirm.

6. Enter the pin code again. Once done, select the checkmark icon and press both buttons to confirm.

7. Press both buttons to start entering your 24 words.

8. Select each word and press both buttons to confirm.

9. Once done, press both buttons to move on to the next Shared-Owner.

1. Press both buttons to start entering your recovery phrase.

2. Select each word and press both buttons to confirm.

3. Once done, press both buttons to move on to the next Shared-Owner.

4. Repeat the above steps for the remaining Shared-Owner.
5. On the web app, click I've completed all the steps when all Shared-Owners have provided their seed.

1. The first Shared-Owner performs the instructions listed in steps 1 to 3 above. Then sends the device to the next Shared-Owner.
2. Instructions for the next Shared-Owner :

   a. Go to https://vault.ledger.com/recover.

   b. Select the Recover a share option in the web app.

   c. Select the I've read the recovery process checkmark and click Start recovery.

   d. Connect the USB end of the cable to your computer, then press and hold the right button while connecting the micro-USB end to the Ledger Nano S until Recovery displays on the screen.

   

   e. Use the right and left buttons to enter the 4-to-8-digits pin code communicated to you by the first Shared-Owner. Once done, select the checkmark icon and press both buttons to confirm.

   

   f. On the web app, click My device is ready to start the recovery process.

   g. Press and hold both buttons to display the Control Center. Press both buttons to select Settings.

   

   h. Navigate to Security and press buttons to confirm.

   

   i. Navigate to Vault recovery and press both buttons to confirm.

   

   j. Press both buttons to start entering your recovery phase when prompted. Vault recovery Enter phrase 2 is displayed for the second Shared-Owner, and Vault recovery Enter phrase 3 for the last one.

   

   k. Select each word and press both buttons to confirm.

   

   l. When the processing screens disappears, disconnect the device.

3. On the web app, click I've completed all the steps .
4. Give the device to the remaining Shared-Owner.
